A CARVED SOAPSTONE FIGURE OF GUANYIN
QING DYNASTY, LATE 18TH/EARLY 19TH CENTURY
The standing deity modelled slightly swayed to one side, holding a scroll close to the body with both hands, the hair swept-up in topknot behind a diadem and partially covered by a cowl, the face finely detailed with eyes downcast, wearing loose robes falling in folds above the bare feet, the garment delicately incised and gilded along the edges with a floral pattern, the reverse side similarly carved with a crane in flight amidst clouds within a cartouche
