A FINE AND RARE BRONZE 'QILIN' CENSER AND COVER
QIANLONG FOUR-CHARACTER MARK AND OF THE PERIOD (1736-1795)
The mythical animal is cast sitting on its haunches on a rockwork ground, modelled with a single horn atop its head between floppy ears, finely detailed with bulging eyes under heavy curled eyebrows, the mouth agape exposing a tongue between rows of teeth and fangs, the chin with tufts of fur falling on a ridged neck, bearing the reign mark, the body variously detailed with ruyi-shaped scales, its back with a square aperture revealing the hollow body, fitted with a correspondingly shaped openwork cover
