QING DYNASTY, 19TH CENTURY

Each panel of double-gourd shape, finely decorated with carvings to include white jade, nephrite, agate, malachite, and stained bone, depicting a boy feeding two chicks whilst his companion plays with a leafy branch, set against a garden landscape, the details of the mountains and plantains executed with coloured lacquer and gilt on an iron-red coloured ground, above an arrangement of babao, 'Precious Things', all contained within a key-fret border; one panel inset with two characters, Anjia, 'Family Tranquility', and the other with Desui, 'Virtuous Retreat'
