A MASSIVE BURLWOOD GRAPE LEAF TRAY
QING DYNASTY, 18TH/19TH CENTURY
Naturalistically carved as a large vine leaf borne on a gnarled branch extending from the underside, bearing a bunch of grapes, the branch spreading over to the upper side with similarly carved grapes, the irregular edges of the leaf curled, areas pierced to simulate worm holes, the branch inscribed with a short inscription in archaistic script, followed by the two square sealmarks

Lot Essay
The two sealmarks are not identifiable. The text may be translated as: 'Food that is edible is like a festival of plenty, watering the roots will bring luscious leaves'.
