A FINE PAIR OF GREEN AND YELLOW ENAMELLED 'DRAGON' SAUCER DISHES
QIANLONG SIX-CHARACTER SEAL MARKS AND OF THE PERIOD (1736-1795)

Each dish is formed with scalloped rims, decorated on the central medallion with an incised green-enamelled full-faced dragon guarding a 'flaming pearl' amidst floral sprays against a bright egg-yolk yellow ground, the cavetto with two striding dragons in pursuit of 'flaming pearls', repeated on the reverse, the double-line borders outlined with aubergine enamel

A pair of dishes of this pattern, but with a frieze of detached flower sprays on the reverse, replacing the dragons, from the T. Y. Chao Collection, was exhibited at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Ch'ing Porcelain from the Wah Kwong Collection, 1973, illustrated in the Catalogue, no. 41; and a single dish was included in the Hong Kong Museum of Art exhibition, Splendour of the Qing Dynasty, 1992, and illustrated in the Catalogue, no. 155.
