A LOUIS XVI ORMOLU-MOUNTED MAHOGANY BUREAU A CYLINDRE
Circa 1785 and embellished in the 19th century, stamped JME, partially remounted
The rectanglar top with pierced three-quarter gallery above three panelled drawers and roll-top enclosing a fitted interior with brown leather-lined slide, the frieze with one long drawer flanked by two short drawers and one deep drawer, on turned tapering fluted legs, with pencil inscription Elgardan, with typed collection label Collection of André Meyer New York 1970, and typed label, C2, originally with marble top, the legs removable for transportation and with infilled fillets to tops probably originally for a metal stabilising frame, bearing the false stamp to the reverse M.CARLIN
