A related pair of chairs with solid backs from the collection of Percival D. Griffiths, Esq. was sold in the sale of his effects, Christie's London, 10 May 1939, lot 182 and one is illustrated in R. Symonds, English Furniture From Charles II to George II, New York, 1929, p.148, fig.94. Another from the Griffiths collection with crossbanded solid back is illustrated op.cit, p.147, fig.92. A further related example is illustrated in F.L. Hinckley, A Directory of Queen Anne, Early Georgian and Chippendale Furniture, New York, 1971, p. 56, fig.36. Another in red walnut from Hackwood Park, Hampshire, was sold Christie's house sale, 20-22 April 1998, lot 124 (£29,900).
