Lot Essay

The legs on this table match those on the library chair (the previous lot). The distinctive design of the legs allows one to attribute this piece to the workshop of Giles Grendey based on labelled furniture of the same design (see 'Furniture by Giles Grendey' preceding lot 230).

A card table similarly carved but with serpentine top from the collection of the Earl of Leitrim, Co.Donegal is illustrated in M. Harris and Sons, A Catalogue and Index of Old Furniture and Works of Decorative Art, London, n.d., part II, p.233.
