Possibly Dutch, circa 1730, the underside of top reveneered and with further replacements to veneer
The molded quarter-veneered ratcheted top over a candle slide to each side, the top crossbanded simulated drawer front pulling out on legs to a hinged tooled red leather writing surface enclosing a walnut-lined interior with compartments, over three further drawers and on bracket feet on brass casters, inscribed in white chalk 8797
50½in. (77.5cm.) high, 36in. (91cm.) wide, 22¼in. (56.5cm.) deep

A table of this form with fluted pullout supports is illustrated R. Edwards, ed., The Dictionary of English Furniture, rev.edn., 1954, vol.II, p.44, fig.39 and in J.C. Rogers, English Furniture, Middlesex, 1967, p.131, pl.90. Another similar was sold anonymously, Sotheby's New York, 13 December 1986, lot 234 ($19,800).
