A GREEN-GLAZED RED POTTERY MODEL OF A BUILDING AND A COURTYARD
HAN DYNASTY
Modeled in two separate sections, the rectangular courtyard surrounded by a low wall with an openwork lower section on three sides inset with crouching figures which support the upper wall and its narrow tile roof, the open doors in the gate at one end molded with monster mask and ring handles below a roof with large curved roof tiles at the corners of the ridge poles, similar decorations in a more exaggerated size are repeated on the tile roof of the separately modeled building which sits in the back of the courtyard, the two shutters in the main storey also molded with monster masks and ring handles, while the two smaller structures surmounting the roof each have a similarly molded shutter as well as three vertically slitted walls, covered overall in a green glaze now almost entirely degraded to an attractive silvery iridescence (some restoration and repairs)
