AN ARCHAISTIC WHITE JADE BALUSTER VASE AND COVER
Carved and incised in bold relief on both sides of the compressed body with a stylized monster mask within a triangular outline of raised oval bosses, the cylindrical neck decorated in low relief with a stylized taotie mask interrupted by a row of square flanges and flanked by ornate phoenix-form handles suspending loose rings carved with lotus leaves above pierced geometric scroll on the tapering sides, the domed cover with a ram, a qilin, an ox and a cock, divided by further flanges and surmounted by a bud finial, the highly polished stone of even greenish-white tone
