SIGNED YOU HE AND DATED DINGYAO YEAR, CORRESPONDING TO 1867

The sides well carved with a scene of a scholar accompanied by an attendant paying homage to an image of Xiwang Mu seen enveloped in the vaporous clouds overhead, the goddess shown seated in a palanquin beneath an umbrella and surrounded by her female attendants, all within a mountainous river landscape, the inscription incised on a rockface to one side

Lot Essay

The inscription reads: "Fugui shoukao tu dingmao zhong qiu, You He". It may be translated as: "A picture of riches, honor and long life. The second month in autumn of the dingyao year (1867). You He". You He is also known as Li Qingliang
