Lot Essay

A dish of this design in the Tokyo National Museum is illustrated in Sekai Toji Zenshu, vol. 15, Tokyo, 1983, p. 69, no. 77. And another is illustrated by John Ayers, Far Eastern Ceramics in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, 1980, fig. 208. See, also, Regina Krahl, Chinese Ceramics from the Meiyintang Collection, vol. 2, London, 1994, pp. 192-193, no. 844, for a similar dish which is illustrated with a blue and white dish of the same design. The author suggests that this kind of dish may be based on Ming prototypes with blue flowers on a yellow ground, and white flowers on blue

A very similar dish was sold in these rooms, December 2, 1989, lot 371, along with its blue and white counterpart, lot 370
