A COPPER-RED AND UNDERGLAZE-BLUE-DECORATED BOTTLE VASE

The swelling globular body rising from a shallow, concave foot, surmounted by a tall neck flared at the mouth, decorated with three finely drawn animals including an ox, a lion and a mythical beast, each shown in profile in a recembent position and painted in copper-red with eyes picked out in underglaze blue, the copper-red varying in tone from bright cherry to pale gray, all reserved on a soft white glaze of even tone

A vase of this type and size was included in the exhibition, The Wonders of the Potter's Palette, Qing Ceramics, Hong Kong Museum of Art, 1984, Catalogue, no. 9.
