Then-Governor Roosevelt thanks a young female supporter: "My dear Miss Rhodes: My cousin, Forbes Amory and John Gage were here for dinner yestersay, and immediately told me of all you have done for them in Pittsburgh, especially in interesting the Junior League. They tell me that it is through you that Mrs. Johnson so very kindly gave her house for a Tea, and...that you took care of all the details for making a Tea of this kind successful..." -- BANCROFT, GEORGE. Autograph letter signed ("George Bancroft") to "My Dear Sir." N.P., 1846. One sheet, 8vo, folded to make four pages; text covering two pages; folded for mailing; lightly worn, darkened at folds, edges; slim ¾in. long chip to bottom corner of last page, not affecting text. The historian, author and founder of the Naval Academy at Annapolis thanks an unnamed gentleman for a gift of "a very nice pair of...ducks [apparently decoys]...They did honor to the American hemisphere..." -- [PITTSBURGH] Manuscript document signed, ("John Campbell") requesting supplies for Fort Pitt, 17 November 1767. One page, 8vo, brown ink on parchment, slightly age-toned at edges, ink occasionally blurring but overall legible and clear: "Memorandom of Sundrys Wanting...Jamaica Spirits...West Indian Rum...Coffee...To be Delivered in Twelve Days...[to]...Fort Pitt Nov. 17 1767..." -- [HISTORIC NEWSPAPERS]. Original issues of two papers (The Times of London, 3 October 1798 and The New York Herald, 15 April 1865) announcing Lord Nelson's victory and the assasination of President Lincoln, respectively; each copy quite fragile -- yellowed, tattered, shredding, with numerous chips and tears; the articles legible, but barely so.
