TAXPAID REVENUES ALCOHOL DISTILLED SPIRITS Distilled Spirits taxpaid revenue stamps were affixed to wooden casks of spirits. They were required to be nailed to the casks using five separate nails and in addition, received a varnish coating. Used examples do exist, but they are usually very faulty and decidedly unattractive. Therefore, most collectors prefer to collect the unused remainders of these stamps purchased by Deats & Sterling in 1890 from the U.S. Treasury Dept. All have the government mandated remainder punch cancels and are complete stamps with both coupons and stubs unless otherwise described.
