The rectangular galleried top above a cylinder with central carved flower-filled basket opening to a fitted interior and writing slide above a frieze drawer carved with berried foliate swags and two short similarly-carved drawers on square tapering fluted legs--45in. (114cm.) high, 48in. (122cm.) wide, 23¼in. (59cm.) deep

The distinctive crisp carving of garlands and flowers of this bureau relates it to a group of cabinet pieces executed in Liège and Aachen circa 1730-1750 (see J. Philippe, Le Meuble Liegèois, 1990, p.83, figs. 149-158, and H. Kreisel, Die Kunst des Deutschen Möbels, 1973, vol. III, nos. 100-104).
