JACK DEMPSEY GLOVE BAG
A glove bag used by heavyweight champion Jack Dempsey from the beginning of his career to the time he won the championship in 1919. The bag is leather with a snaplock. The bag has painted into the two top sides the name "JACK DEMPSY". It is accompanied by a picture of Dempsey autographed to Gene Fowler, an author who grew up with Dempsey and at whose funeral Dempsey acted as a pallbearer. The picture is signed "To Gene, in memory of our old days at Victor and Vassar. Best always Pal Jack Dempsy." The photograph from Victor, Colorado also spells the name "Dempsy". The bag was given by Gene Fowler to his son Will Fowler, also an author who wrote about Dempsey. A letter from Will Fowler authenticating the bag accompanies the bag and photograph. An important item from Dempsey's early career.
