Lot Essay

In Edward Weston: Photographs, Amy Conger refers this image back to a cloud and landscape study made in the prior year (see fig. 1515). Noting that Weston had further acted on his minimalist urge even further, "Weston left a small, smooth curve of the planet and a few bright, flat-bottomed clouds, floating in an indeterminate place in the sky. It is white against white; there is some light gray in the sky but no allusions to black."
