Lot Essay

This camera was the first prize in the Barnack/Year of the Child Draw and was delivered by E. Leitz (Instruments) Limited Director A. H. Elder on Tuesday, 4 March 1980 to the winner in Wolverhampton. To commemorate the centenary of the birth of Oscar Barnack on 1 November 1879 1000 gold and skin covered Leica R3 and M4-2 cameras were produced. The Leitz packaging describe the camera as 24 carat gold plated, lizard skin.
