The Olympus M1 camera was launched at Photokina in 1972 and was rapidly withdrawn and re-launched with the model name OM-1. Leitz had registered the M1 name in 1959. Very few of the M1 marked Olympus cameras found their way on to the open market. The lens engraving was also changed from M1 to OM-1.
