A PAIR OF VICTORIAN BRASS-MOUNTED MAHOGANY HALL BENCHES
LATE 19TH CENTURY, BY JAMES SHOOLBRED & CO.

Each with rectangular reeded seat surmounted by a horizontal pierced baluster back, the sides with roundel centered by a gadrooned clasp, on channelled legs joined by conforming stretchers, one stamped JAS SCHOOLBRED & CO and 3204, both impressed twice with two registration marks for 13 December 1883 (2)

Lot Essay

A virtually identical seat with identical registration mark, also stamped by Shoolbred and with number 2724 was sold by Christie's London, 14 July 1994, lot 163, while a seat of the same model and with identical registration mark by Urquhart and Adamson was sold by Christie's London, 2 February 1995, lot 31. A further pair from the estate of Mary, Viscountess Rothermere, was sold in these Rooms, 16 April 1994, lot 150.
