This chair is modelled after a well-known set. Four from the set are currently in the saloon at Clandon Park, Surrey (illustrated in situ in J. Fowler and J. Cornforth, English Decoration in the 18th Century, 2nd ed., 1978, pl. XXVIII) and another is in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London (illustrated in H. Cescinsky, English Furniture of the Eighteenth Century, n.d., vol.I, p.69, fig.80).
