MARC HAAS
(1908-1990)
Marc Haas had a keen appreciation for 18th century English decorative arts and he surrounded himself with fine examples of Georgian furniture, ceramics and silver which he displayed in both his home and office. Mr. Haas was also an astute philatelist. His 3,500 rare stamps and memorabilia which represented a lifetime of collecting were sold privately in 1979 and realized $11 million.
Mr. Haas was president of American Diversified Enterprises, Inc., a venture capital firm which he founded in 1955. He was a Knight of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem, an English order comparable to the Knights of Malta. He was also actively involved at St. Bartholomew's Church on Park Avenue, where he served as a vestryman for over twenty-five years. Mr. Haas lived in Manhattan and Bürgenstock, Switzerland.
