The form of this bookcase with its arched outer sections and central broken pediment is after a design for a 'Library Bookcase' published in Thomas Chippendale's The Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker's Director of 1762, pl.XCIII.

A breakfront of this form belonging to the Earl of Radnor at Longford Castle, Wiltshire is illustrated in A. Coleridge, a Chippendale Furniture, 1968, pl.251.
