A CONTINENTAL LARGE SILVER FLAGON, probably Hanau, late 19th century, in the Renaissance taste, gilt lined, cylindrical on bowed rim base, twice applied with molded bands, flat chased below the lower band with coiling flowers divided by paterae, the body with eight elongated lozenge form panels alternately enclosing heraldic motif or biblical figure, the lower body divided between panels with an engraved animal, above dividers with foliate scroll spray, the shoulder flat chased with arabesque band, with part foliate caryatid scroll handle with bifurcated lower join, the round hinge issuing baluster thumbpiece to the molded raised cover, the cover further decorated with arch enclosed birds, the top engraved with heraldic motif, with flat chased acanthus borders--16¼in. (41.2cm.) high, 90oz.
