Lot Essay

The jockey up, possibly Fred Archer, is wearing the colours of Lord Falmouth, the most successful racehorse owner in the country from about 1870 until he sold his stud in 1884. The second jockey is wearing the colours of Mr. Henry Chaplin, the owner of the Derby winner 'Hermit'.
