A large Japanese ivory carving of a standing man holding a scroll from which two miniature figures emerge, one holding a mallet and a bell, a vase of peony on the ground beside him, the man wearing a jerkin with a pouch hanging from his belt and a hat, the details stained black -- 15½in.high, signed Sozan on rectangular red lacquer reserve.
