Reputed to be that of Napoleon Bonaparte, the rectangular brass frame with gadrooned border and paterae, with beaded oval edge on wood mount and with metal loop for suspension, a lock of hair sewn onto manuscript document framed within; together with a modern easel stand realistically formed as branches with joining link chain, apparently unmarked

According to its documents, this souvenir of Napoleon was given to the Chalard family by Mme de Lacroix confidante of Queen Hortense.

This relic comes with a document dated May 1820 giving its history and entitled Cheveux de Sa Majesté L'Empereur Napoleon. On the back of the frame is further history dated 1861 and reads as follows: Cheveux de Sa Majesté l'Empereur Napoleon 5 Mai 1820. Donné par Mme de Lacroix, Dame de confiance de la reine Hortense-habitante de Wienna et puis enterré à Augsbourg. Aus der Rücksichte André Hippolite Chalard. 1820 [?] Chalard 1861 1 Stürkehen dar [...] 19 Novemb 1796.
