Circular, the double-walled base with gadrooned rim, the domed covers with leaf-clad reeded open handle on gadrooned base, the fluted baluster wood handle with linked chain and pin, unscrewing to provide access to the hot water compartment, the interior set with removable tri-partite divider, the cover engraved with an Earl's armorials, the base and divider with crest and Earl's coronet, marked on base, interior, cover, divider and finial

Lot Essay

The arms are those of John, 2nd Earl of Eldon, born in 1805. He was M.P. for Truro 1829-1832 and president of the Pitt club in 1842. He married in 1831 Louisa, daughter of Charles, Lord Feversham, who died in 1852. The following year Lord Eldon was declared of unsound mind and died in 1854.
