HAWLEY HARLEY CRIPPEN (1862-1910)
A 1p. written legal authority signed by Crippen whilst in prison, to his solicitor Arthur Newton, 14th September 1910, the text in another hand, directing the disposal of his effects '...with the exception of my clothes which I desire you to keep in safety for me..'; a 1p. t.l.s on paper headed The Aural Remedies Coy., Craven House, dated 15th March 1910, giving his diagnosis and recommending his remedies to an enquirer; a forged letter puporting to be written and signed by Belle Elmore (Mrs. Crippen), from the papers of Lord Alverstone, the judge at the trial, the writer asks that the case be stopped, talks of '...the scandalous plot against my husband' claims that the remains found were not human and concludes 'My life is at present in danger but give me only a few days and the world shall know all...stop the case or justice must miscarry! at your responsibility'. The letter dated the 15th March 1910 is of extreme interest as it is the day after Mrs. Crippen is said to have been murdered.
