Details
A pair of late George III black painted beech open armchairs in the manner of Robert Adam, each with canted toprail and three uprights painted with leaves and central garland above caned seat on square tapering gaitered legs.
Cf. a set of six chairs at Osterley Park, perhaps originally made for one of the Gardon Buildings, with similarly canted toprail and shaped uprights but with painted decoration in the Etruscan manner (Maurice Tomlin, Catalogue of Adam Period Furniture, Victoria and Albert Museum 1982. page.147.)
A similar set were offered at Christies' King Street, 6th July 1990, Lot 81. (2)
