A William IV mahogany adjustable wing armchair the buttoned adjustable back, rectangular seat and padded arms with dark green upholstery, the arms with scroll terminals, the seat with pull-out ratcheted adjustable foot rest on turned tapering lappeted legs, stamped G. Minter, 55 Gerrard St., Soho. W. R. flanking a crown, Patent No 752
George Minter is known at a number of London addresses in Soho between 1829-1854 and in 1839 was trading as "Patentee of the Self-Acting Chair" A number of chairs are recorded bearing his stamp including one very similar to this example, sold at Phillips, 11 January 1983, Lot 50.
