The Ballad Of John & Yoko released on 30th May 1969 reached No.1 in the charts. The song followed John and Yoko's Amsterdam Bed-In where they were ridiculed by the world's media and was released during their eight day bed-in for peace in Toronto. The words reflected ..The Lennons' paranoia about the public's scorn..It was markedly autobiographical, a narrative account of John and Yoko's recent activities: Christ you know it ain't easy, you know how hard it can be, The way things are going, they're gonna crucify me.. ABC the Australian Broadcasting Company, and some American radio stations banned the broadcast of the record as they considered the use of the word Christ to be blasphemous thus justifying the fears Lennon expressed in this note.
