Between 15th-17th January 1942, Prime Minister Winston Churchill, returning from his meeting with President Roosevelt, made his first air crossing of the Atlantic, from Norfolk, Virginia via Bermuda, to Plymouth in a Boeing 314A flying boat owned by the British Overseas Airways Corporation and piloted by Captain Kelly Rodgers.
