AN EARLY GEORGE II JAPANNED LONGCASE CLOCK
Maker's plaque of Rob Jackson London
The hood with shaped top ornamented by three brass finials, and a pierced brass grille, the arched glazed door flanked by columns, the arched trunk door and plinth decorated with coloured engravings of ladies emblematic of Summer and Autumn; and a scene after Hogarth, having gilt Chinoiserie ornament on a black ground; the brass dial with silvered chapter ring, roman and arabic numerals, subsidiary seconds dial, strike/silent dial, date aperture, foliate giltmetal lunette and spandrels and pierced blued steel hands.
With various 19th century inscriptions inside the trunk door dating from 1865, 1868, and a note stating that the clock 'originally belonged to Nell Gwynne' dated 1896
