A pair of Japanese gold lacquer shibayama-style flaring beaker vases decorated in hiramakie, aogai, coral, stained ivory, horn and tortoiseshell with birds and butterflies in flight above flowering plants and grasses, with roundels of chrysanthemum, tree peony and other flowers to the necks, and with stylised scrolling foliage to the footed bases, all on a kinji ground, the interiors and the bases of nashiji (chips and cracks, one in two parts, piece of inlay missing ) -- 5in.high, signed in Kakihan Ochiai Kakushu on rectangular reserves.
