A pair of Japanese Shibayama-style, gold lacquer and silver vases of tapering rectangular shape with canted corners and tall flaring necks, decorated with a shaped panel inlaid in mother-of-pearl and hardstones with birds perched on flowering branches, on a ground decorated in scattered hirame and togidashi with a meandering stream beside dense leaves, the necks and feet decorated in coloured enamels with stylised flowerheads and scrolling foliage (old damage, some inlay missing) -- 6¾in.high, signed on rectangular gilt tablets Sangetsu and Gekka. .
