BLUE INTERLACED L'S ENCLOSING DATE LETTER A FOR 1753 AND PAINTER'S MARK K FOR DODIN TO ALL PIECES, THE STAND INCISED TEM, THE SUGAR-BOWL AND CUP INCISED 4

Decorated en camaïeu rose with alternate shaped panels of putti in clouds and trophies of Love reserved on the dark blue ground within gilt ciselé cartouches of foliate scrolls and flowers, the underside of the stand and cover inscribed in orange with collection numbers, comprising:

An oval stand (porte-huilier), 10 7/8in. (27.5cm.) long
A cup (gobelet à lait à la reine', 1er grandeur), 4 5/8in. (11.8cm.) high
ugar-bowl and cover (pot à sucre 'à la reine'), 3¾in. (9.5cm.) high (3)

Lot Essay

Charles-Nicholas Dodin was active at Vincennes and Sèvres 1754-1802. The present pieces must therefore be one of his very first efforts at figure painting.
