Lot Essay

This meuble d'appui was made to match an example attributed to Adam Weisweiler (maître in 1778) with a painted Versailles inventory mark, formerly in the collection of the Earl of Rosebery, Mentmore, Buckinghamshire, sold in the above sale, lot 119. A pair of cabinets by Weisweiler of very similar form, the mounts attributed to Boizot or Thomire, is illustrated in C. Packer, Paris Furniture, 1956, fig. 179.
