Canabas specialized in a variety of simple, functional pieces, often in the fashionable goût anglais of the 1770's. The distinctive use of human feet on this table relates to similar examples attributed to John Channon (1711- c. 1783), an English maker strongly influenced by the work of Abraham Roentgen (see C. Gilbert and T. Murdoch, John Chamnon and Brass-inlaid Furniture 1730-1760, 1993, p. 119, fig. 155).
