ANDERSON, SHERWOOD. The Triumph of the Egg. New York: Huebsch 1921. 8vo, original dark green cloth, slightly soiled, front inner hinge tender; cloth folding case. FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE, PRESENTATION COPY TO GERTRUDE STEIN, inscribed by the author on front free endpaper: "To My Friend Gertrude Stein, Sherwood Anderson," photographs by Eugene Hutchinson. It was in 1921 during his first trip to Paris that Anderson was introduced to Stein by Sylvia Beach (see her Shakespeare and Company, New York, 1959, pp. 30-32); the following year he wrote an introduction to Stein's Geography and Plays.
