Small 8vo, purple-black crushed morocco, covers ruled mostly in blind to an overall diaper pattern, with red, blind and gilt dots, centers of covers ruled in red to form five joined lozenge panels, these red rules crossing the smooth and rounded gilt-lettered spine, board edges and turn-ins with single gilt fillet, black endpapers, g.e., original printed wrappers with backstrip bound in, by Tchekeroul (stamped on front turn-in) and R. Paris doreur (stamped on rear turn-in), very slight wear to upper joints, the text printed on poor quality wartime paper; matching calf slipcase. FIRST EDITION of Camus's first novel.
