FIRST EDITION of Hemingway's second book, limited to 170 numbered copies printed on Rives paper (this no. 101), PRESENTATION COPY, inscribed by the author on front free endpaper: "To Dr. Don Carlos Guffey with very best wishes Ernest Hemingway"; woodcut frontispiece portrait of Hemingway after Henry Slater. Dr. Guffey was the obstetrician who delivered Patrick and Gregory, the two children of Hemingway's second marriage (to Pauline), by Caesarean section.
