FIRST EDITION, one of 1000 copies, PRESENTATION COPY TO PEARL BUCK, inscribed by Pound on the front free endpaper: "P.B. cordial saluti E.P. 'dreary documentation' sez the 'Times' of London"; on p. 18, where two Chinese pictograms are printed upside down, Pound has written in pencil: "These printers. It was right side up in the proofs." Cantos LII-LXI deal with Chinese civilization, making this an appropriate book for presentation to Pearl Buck; cantos LXII-LXXI are the John Adams cantos. Gallup A47a. Fine.
