SYNGE, JOHN MILLINGTON. Autograph letter signed ("J.M. Synge") to the actor-translator Karel Musek of the Bohemian National Theatre in Prague; Kingstown, Ireland, 5 February 1906. 2 pages, 4to, both sides of a sheet, fold creases; half morocco slipcase. Musek had translated The Shadow of the Glen (he eventually would translate most of Synge). The playwright writes: "I see...you are playing my Shadow of the Glen in Prague this month. I would be much obliged if you would kindly send me a couple of programmes of your performance...I have just received copies of the larger edition of the Well of the Saints and I will have great pleasure in sending you a copy...I need not say that I will be greatly interested to see how my little play succeeds in Bohemia. Your movement there must, in many ways, be like ours in Ireland..." Published (from Musek's manuscript copy at Trinity College, Dublin) in Letters, ed. Saddlemyer, vol. I, pp. 158-9.
