Lot Essay

Coe states that Pearsall's Compact camera was made in 1883 and had a novel focusing screen. A white, translucent roller-blind was fitted above the focal plane and could be pulled down and fastened to act as a focusing screen. McKeown states that there has only been one known sale, in 1981, of a Compact camera.
