A BRONZE KAKEBOTOKE (HANGING-BUDDHA) FIGURE
MUROMACHI PERIOD (15TH CENTURY)
Cast in the figure of the Eleven-headed Kannon (Juichimen Kannon) seated padmasana with hands held in Amida mudra and draped in loose robes pleated at the shoulder and open at the chest, the high crown surmounted by six of the original eleven Buddha heads, the figure pierced at the back with a rectangular opening and hollow in the interior and cast with two supports perpindicular to the body which enable the figure to be suspended--10 7/8in. (27.7cm.) high
