Lot Essay

This work dates to 1900 and is comparable to two other watercolors, also purchased by Wildenstein and Co. at the studio sale of 1936 (lots 45 and 48). The pose derives from the portrait drawing of Edgar Degas in the Museo Boldini, Ferrara.
