Lot Essay

Born in Naples, the sculptor worked primarily in Rome on monumental projects. He exhibited internationally and was one of the most celebrated artists of his period. The present work is typical of this sculptor's fascination with the nude female form incorporating the classicism of the Greeks with the decorative and modern idioms of the early 20th century.
